Life’s too short- Eat ALL The Fudge Sauce!

Here we find August! Where did July even go? I swear I turned around and July just disappeared!!! Before long my kiddo will be starting 1st grade (how did that happen!!) and my husband’s softball coaching career started today!

So for the next month and a half you can find me hiding… searching aimlessly for my sanity… which will be nowhere to be found. Oh tis the season 😂

On top of having a big birthday this year, my husband and I got to take a wonderful vacation to Florida to celebrate our anniversary! It was amazing, relaxing and nice to not have a schedule! While the girls enjoyed some much needed grandparent time. They got spoiled immensely- but what else is suppose to happen at the grandparents?

Our oldest “L” went home to Germany- I mentioned how hard it would be in my last post… and it was just as much or maybe even harder. She’s back to normal at home and doing well! We miss her dearly, and someone mentions her at least once a day… but technology is so helpful and we’re so thankful for that! The year we had with her is irreplaceable – and that we’ll forever be grateful!

We got another new member of the family! No, not another exchange student… I am NOT pregnant- or plan to be…. this is more of the four legged type 😂 JoJo has been a fun little addition to our crew and she’s been a nice distraction among everything else that’s gone on!! She’s a Pooshi… I know- you’ve never heard of that either? Well, part poodle- so she doesn’t shed! And that hypoallergenic is super important 😁 she’s feisty, fits in great among our craziness! (She also won’t get much bigger if any at all!) so be prepared to see a lot more blog posts about the dog named JoJo.

Today we got to continue one of our favorite family traditions (mine more than Ryan’s for sure!!) and make a trip to the Missouri State Fair! There’s just something about the heat, animals, dust, country music, exhibits…. of course the day we chose to go ended up being around 94° and the cloud coverage we had when we left the house, disappeared as soon as we pulled into Sedalia 🙄 go figure. We had a great time anyway! But instead of buying the super expensive ice cream or fair food at the park I told the girls I wanted to try this really delicious (or so I was told) recipe for some hot fudge to top our ice cream when we got home. They decided that sounded good so we held off and waited- and boy am I glad we did!!

When I heard about this recipe first, I was talking with a very close friend at church. Now, she is a terrific baker- and makes some really amazing things… when she was bragging on this she mentioned how easy it was- so of course my ears perked up! Anything that is that good, and that delicious- I need to hear about it.

So of course she sent the recipe right over.

Not only was this recipe easy…. it was super fast! And made A LOT! So basically… I ran out of ice cream, before I ran out of sauce…. words for the wise- buy two cartons of ice cream….

I’m also pretty sure you can’t mess this recipe up… because I really thought I was doing a good job and reading it all right, yet as a mom- you know, our brains are going a mile a minute- with about 14 different tabs open… and well… I was trying to get supper going too. So things really went in at different times then they were necessarily suppose to.. I was so worried that it wouldn’t turn out- but it was fantastic!!

I first put the sugar, cocoa, and heavy whipping cream in a sauce pan together and started to heat it on the stove. As it warmed I placed the butter in the microwave to soften and then poured it in. Whisking it all together until it was as all incorporated and smooth on medium-low heat, then returned to low heat whisking continually until glossy (only about 20 seconds or so!) removed from heat and added the vanilla. We weren’t ready to use it right away, so I let it sit and then warmed up again before I poured over our ice cream.

I also stored it in a mason jar covered in the refrigerator! It’s easy to warm that way and pour over our next batch of delicious ice cream!!!

Here’s the exact recipe


Hot Fudge Sauce

1 1/2 cups of sugar

1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup of heavy whipping cream, whole milk or half and half

1/2 cup of butter

2 tsp vanilla extract

In a medium sauce pan bring sugar, cocoa powder, whipping cream and butter to a simmer over medium-low heat, return to low heat and continue whisking continually until glossy- about 20 seconds. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, use immediately or warm before topping ice cream.

Store in covered container in refrigerator
